On September 1, 1939 Nazi Germany invaded Poland. That day changed Adela Blanc’s life forever. Adela and her Jewish family were given two opportunities to flee Nazi rule. However, they chose to stay in Łódź, Poland. Eventually the Nazis forced her family into the ghetto where life was extremely difficult. Adela was then sent to Auschwitz, Bergen-Belsen, and finally Salzwedel. Very ill and malnourished, Adela was liberated in 1945 by a special tank battalion named The Black Panthers. Thanks to these brave soldiers, Adela later found a wonderful husband and would go on to lead a full life with a beautiful family.
